Beth Gibbons - Sounds stupid but I wanted the colours in this to represent the feeling and mood of their music, but also capture the warmth I feel when I listen to their music.....Some people find it depressing I find it deep, soothing and inspiring.

Thinking about the music in this way makes creating the picture a lot easier for me to enjoy, and also relates to the original process used in static love which was a lot more personal and therefore easier to reflect in the mood and colour of the piece.

So i may choose a few more artists based on perhaps how a single song has affected me, and the mood it inspired or perfectly represented.

Static Tunes.....(portraits)

So I have been trying to expand the style and process I developed for my Static Love project into a slightly more commercial vain, by looking at some of my favorite musicians and doing portraits of them....The only problem I have discovered is figuring out the emotion of the character i want to portray in the colours that I choose to represent them....

So far I have sent my first one to the subject Kidkanevil and had some positive feedback, and may even be featured on his website so fingers crossed!! I will do some more smaller artists so that i may be able to get some feedback on my work, which gives me a lot of confidence for my next piece! :)

first attempt...

this is the first attempt ive had at changing my process and style to different content, at first portraits/situation art, to see how it converts.....The use of more detail may have changed it into something that looks a bit too much like a photo manipulation....but ill have to do more to find out. Plus without the emotion relating directly to the original colour choice, i think it may lack some feeling...perhaps the need is to put more narrative into the portraits?...hmmm

How they shall be printed i'm still not sure, whether digital allows it to be bigger and more expensive?? I'm also planning to illustrate the titles of the pieces and print them in slightly different colours and style for my A4 Portfolio....But for the big portfolio it will hopefully be a combination of Screen Printing and Large prints A1 perhaps on canvas....we shall see! This process seems to bring out a slightly different result every time i use it.....but because of the certain random-esque aspect to its creation i find it much much easier to distance my self from it, and reflect on it that much quicker.....I will keep going, creating. But I still have mixed emotions about the origins of the photographs, whilst i like the concept behind it....it feels like i need slightly more customization/input on the position of the model.....

In a way, i don't choose my image until i have an emotion or story to match it or a moment that reflects it.

I will carry on reflecting AFTER finishing a few more, as the doubt at the moment only seems to be denting my work flow.....head in the sand for now!

From a composition point of view this is more pleasing....with a nice contrast of the shapes and the eratic forms.....

I will repeat this process, but it is essential that i invest in some thought towards the colours i use once i am happy with the figure and content.

HANG UP THE CHICK HABIT. (Static Love)

An idea for narrative content which needs developing, im not sure if it has enough weight yet.....The predicament and position of love, sensitivity and sentimentality within todays 'dating' society, the sought of world inspired by tv shows like Sex and the City. When people are in the position to think that when they are not having a sexual relationship with someone there life is a failure of some soughts....But this culture trend along with the fear of commitment and drinking culture inspires relationships to end before they've begun....But do these people involved with these fast relationships/one night stands/fuck buddies ever miss the people they have been with....To stubborn to be regretful perhaps maybe this what spurs them on to the next quick fix....I'd like to investigate what these men and women could really be thinking about one another but would never admit to perhaps not even to them selves.

Within these next few posts i'll be using women as models, in farely sexually exploitative manner to perhaps represent how people want to see how these relationships went rather than the way they did. But then hopefully I will experiment with a few more romantic styled situations.....to stylise will a bit more challenging.

Another attempt at progressing the animation idea, was drawing with a pretty bruised knuckle, but i still think this has a great chance of working well.....Need to really consider what sought of vain the content will run through......


Want to experiment with background, and whether it should also be animated or static like i originally conceived!.....definitely has to be able to stand on its own as abstract piece.

This was just a little tester for the sought of style i want to use for my final show....well thats not finalised but at least i've got the ball rolling in the right direction.....! The process in some ways might directly effect the content depending on where i want to source my images from....

But anyway I'm still experimenting with ideas....I'm going to carry on sketching figures even though it is no way near producing what i want....but it does help to form ideas (obviously).
But started to put together rough ideas of what i want my final composition and style to look/feel like....Geometric shapes and forms that hide some meanings for me personally along with sketchy figures....perhaps relating to a narrative that im not sure on yet...whether it will be character based narrative or narrative based on a scene....

Very Very beginnings of character development....needs depth emotionally and some more figure drawing practice......LOTS LOTS MORE!!! :)

The idea behind the hooded character is to play with societies automatic response of assuming the hood as a cover up for some sought of criminal activity, instead the character uses his hood to hide his emotion's......and stuff.
